Saltwater Fishing
Perhaps the greatest sporting benefit of living on an island is the fishing, and Long Island is no exception. There was a time when you could rent a boat at nearly any waterside park or marina on Long Island. Still, there are a few places where a family can take a boat out for the day and, with any luck, come back with dinner in the form of a flounder, fluke, striped bass or any number of other verities of fish that are abundant in Long Island’s waters.
From the shadows of the massive bridges and cityscapes in the west to the serene lighthouses and open waters of the east, Long island offers a species for anglers of all ages, abilities and appetites.
